Make First Impressions with a Welcome Sign
First impressions are just that, your first impression. When you meet someone what is it that you notice first? The way they are dressed? Their facial expressions? Whether they are attractive? Their physical appearance? The way they greet you? How do you quickly summarize your first impression of the person standing before you? Once we get our first impression, the person has to work at changing our minds. We need to watch them at different times and in different circumstances for us to readjust our perceptions. People don’t even know what conclusions we have made about them. We like to see some sort of welcome sign from the people we meet.
This is the same for your home. What first impression does your home make? How does its physical appearance look? Is your grass cut? Are the bushes trimmed? Do you have flowers out front whether perennials or annuals? Is the walkway clear of clutter such as bikes and toys? What about the extras that give us a welcome sign? Do you have potted plants framing the front door, a bench that says, ‘relax and slow down’, a water feature such as a fountain or pond? What is the first impression that your house says to the people who come and visit? Does your home say welcome?
